My therapeutic approach

Gestalt Psychotherapy

A way of working that brings attention to the whole person and to what is happening in the here and now.

What is Gestalt?

Gestalt therapy is an experiential and relational approach to psychotherapy. Rather than seeing difficulties only as problems to be analysed, Gestalt invites us to become aware of how we experience ourselves, other people and our environment.

This includes thoughts and emotions, but also bodily sensations, impulses, patterns of contact, boundaries and the ways we make meaning of our experiences.

The past matters. Gestalt also asks how the past is present now — and what becomes possible when we notice our ways of responding with greater awareness.

In practice

What might we pay attention to?

01

Awareness

Noticing what is happening in your thoughts, feelings, body and relationships.

02

Contact

Exploring how you reach towards others, protect yourself, create boundaries and meet the world around you.

03

Experiment

When appropriate, gentle experiential work can help you discover something different rather than only talking about it.

Gestalt therapy is not about forcing a particular outcome. The process is collaborative and responsive to what emerges in the therapeutic relationship.

A space to become more aware of yourself.

Greater awareness can create more choice: the possibility of recognising what you need, how you respond, what you value and what you may want to change.
